Tire Design : Futuristic Round


Seoul - Future tire design will not be round like a donut. One of them as created Hankook Tire with a product called Flexup. This premium tire also received a bronze award for innovative futuristic concept tires at the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) 2017.

IDEA is a prestigious international design competition sponsored annually by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), judged by top design experts from around the world. This event is known as one of the three most prestigious awards in the world besides the iF Design Award and Red Dot Award.

Hankook Tire Flexup received the Bronze award at IDEA 2017, reflecting an innovative design that can lead us to a driving future and deliver an innovative brand image.

Meanwhile, another tire from Hankook type Shiftrac received the Finalist award, successfully proving the design philosophy with future orientation as well as demonstrating innovative technology.

Flexup can be used for single-person vehicles that can access difficult terrain such as stairs, impacts, and other things within a city with narrow road conditions. In principle, moving the tread widening or contracting tread, to reach speeds of 35 kph in the city environment.

While Shiftrac is a Hyper Agility-based tire concept, it is designed to perform seamless and vivacious moves within the big city, through transitional or skating principles that push outwards. This allows good acceleration in the bend and on certain terrain changes.

Prior to this year's achievement, Hankook Tire has achieved a series of satisfying results through innovation design programs. The company has previously bagged IDEA 2015, the Luminary award at the Red Dot Award, and iF Gold Award 2016 thanks to its innovation for Boostrac, Alpike, and Hyblade products, in collaboration with Pforzheim University in Germany.
