Seeking for Luck : Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

Tokyo, KompasOtomotif - Mitsubishi Motors plans to introduce Outlander PHEV to North American and Eastern European markets this year. The Japanese brand, called to expand its global footprint for its SUV plug-in hybrid vehicle.

Quoting Nikkei, Friday (16/06/2017) currently Mitsubishi produce Outlander PHEV in the country and already sell it in Japan and Western Europe. This move is expected to strengthen Mitsubishi's market position in many places, utilizing the wave of "green car".

In keeping with the Outlander PHEV expansion, Mitsubishi is also designing a new model better, where it can 80 percent charge the battery in just 25 minutes, or 20 percent faster than it is today. This refinement model is also equipped with a mechanism, in which the electric motor takes precedence over the combustion engine, to reduce emissions.

Mitsubishi Motors will start sales of Eastern Europe in Ukraine by the end of 2017, then expand to Russia and other regions. To promote cars in Ukraine, the company will install fast charging stations, in some dealers in Kiev and elsewhere.

Japanese research firm Fuji Keizai said global plug-in hybrid sales are seen to grow 31-fold or to 6.65 million in 20 years to 2035, surpassing regular hybrid sales and electric vehicles.

That trend makes all car manufacturers work hard, to improve their existence in the plug-in hybrid market. Toyota Motor, the king of hybrid makers, has also begun releasing plug-in hybrid versions of the Prius in Japan and and Western countries by the end of 2016.

Mitsubishi Motors itself has a goal of increasing sales globally by 25 percent, until March 2020 to 1.25 million vehicles. This brand does not yet have a strong enough position in Europe and North America, or only accounts for less than 20 percent of total sales, compared to a 30 percent share in Asia.

One way of Mitsubishi is to expand sales in America and Europe starting with Outlander, which is currently the only plug-in hybrid product, and then added another model in the type of environmentally friendly vehicles.
