Audi Introduces 48 Volts Electrical System

Audi will upgrade the electrical system of the car from 12 volts to 48 volts. This step is a basic foundation to facilitate the integration of new technologies while increasing the power and efficiency of the car.

"Running a car electrical system at 48 volts plays an important role in our electrification strategy. It is useful to make more energy to be used," explained Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Board of Management for Technical Development of Audi.

This technology is installed in the Audi A6 TDI Concept and RS 5 TDI Concept. Both models are equipped with an electric compressor that works independent of engine load so as to improve acceleration fundamentally. The plan, Audi will demonstrate the application of this system is 48 volts in some parts of the car.
