Munich - laser light technology is one of the flagship features of the BMW i8. Apparently, the laser light used electric sports car was supplied by the world's largest lighting manufacturers, Osram.
As written by Automotive News Europe on Wednesday (07/23/2014), BMW took the lamp from Osram Opto laser Semiconductors (OOS), a subsidiary of Osram. OOS already known as a specialized manufacturer of LED (light-emitting diode).
But for BMW, OOS create laser light technology is better than LED lighting. According to BMW, the i8 laser light is only using half the energy of LEDs, but is capable of emitting 170 lumens per watt. This figure is 70 percent brighter than LEDs.
In addition, when the position of the high-beams (high beam), can penetrate up to 600 meters distance. While conventional LED lights highlight only 300 meters away. This excess use laser light rather than LEDs.
Unfortunately, because of the high laser lumens, these lamps can only be used at speeds over 60 kph. Because, when you are in a high speed, the driver will be difficult to detect the presence of another light on the front of the car. Therefore, this model is still illegal lights used in the United States.
