BMW Show Off Wireless Charging Battery Technology for Electric Car

Las Vegas - German automotive manufacturer, BMW began to introduce wireless charging technology for i8 hybrid sports car at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas that took place this week. It reportedly will not bother the owner to charge a car battery.

This technology uses a magnetic field between the base pads on the floor of the garage or street with a coil in the bottom of the car to transmit electricity.

Manufacturer based in Munich, Germany this claim, this inductive charging offers convenience for owners of electric cars and plug-in hybrid cars. BMW and Mercedes-Benz owner, Daimler AG agreed to cooperate in the wireless charging since last July.

Under pressure from the government to follow the emission regulations, both automakers have pledged to expand their range of electric vehicles. Mercedes-Benz B-Class has to offer electric versions and models of the S-Class plug-in hybrid version.

Now, prototype BMW only takes two hours to charge the battery i8 to reach a distance of 37 km. It shows that the numbers are not much different from using a regular charger cable.

BMW also set up facilities, battery charging using solar power. This solar-powered battery charging the same size as a regular garage and could generate enough power to bring electric cars to drive up to 32,000 miles.
