Tokyo - Japanese manufacturer of tires, Bridgestone some time ago has been exhibiting the concept of tires without air. Lastly, Bridgestone showcased the concept of airless tires named Air Free Concept second generation at the Geneva Motor Show 2015.
Now, as reported Asphalt and Rubber, Sunday (5/28/2017), the airless tire was already close to reality. Reportedly, Bridgestone will produce the airless tire in 2019.
But, in 2019, Bridgestone new airless tires for bikecycle. Bridgestone seems to want to try first on a bike before the airless tire is used in motorcicle vehicles.
This non-pneumatic tire has the advantage of unnecessary maintenance (no need to check tire wind pressure). And this tire is also hold up to puncture sharp objects.
The concept of airless tires has a unique structure with radius that extends along the inside of the tire. The structure is able to withstand vehicle loads without the need to fill it with air.
The structure of the tire bar is made of thermoplastic resin and all materials in the tire can be recycled. Bridgestone also claimed their airless tires could contribute to reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
